Gain Real-World Experience in Your Coursework

Throughout the program curriculum, your instructors will assign coursework that is designed to help you prioritize career-focused skills and experience and become a well-rounded and sought-after job candidate. You’ll gain experience in problem-solving and data analysis, and your projects will aim to help real organizations with data-based decision-making. In past courses, students have chosen the following projects, topics, and subject areas in order to complete required course assignments:

  • Develop a predictive model to enable an organization to build a fraud detection ecosystem that will monitor in-transit and at-rest identity data for fraud, thus saving valuable fiscal and physical resources.
  • Conduct NASA Global Landslide Catalog dataset analysis to determine the cause of the high number of fatalities in the United States due to landslides.
  • Apply advanced machine learning methods to summarize and search 32,000 NASA datasets to find hidden patterns in topics ranging from Earth science to aerospace engineering.
  • Develop analytic approaches to identify high risk offenders, reduce recidivism, and keep communities safe.  
  • Conduct safety research with FAA aeronautical data and other publicly available FAA data using data science techniques to evaluate various helicopter maneuvers.
  • Perform sentiment analysis on Twitter airline data or other data of interest.
  • Develop a study report on healthcare data using advanced techniques.
